The Tek - Stats for February 2021

This month confirms that February is a bad time for sales on DriveThruRPG.

AD&D Character Sheet For Use with Unearthed Arcana: 0
Compass Rose Inn Minisetting: 1
Kobold's Folly: 1
Swashbuckler Character Class for D&D and AD&D: 0
These Old Games Presents: The Hex Pack: 2
Zero to Hero: Uncommon Commoners: 1

I've had a year of criticism at the table with the Swashbuckler character class, I think I'll do something with that this year. I also have a few ideas for upgrading Kobold's Folly which includes a new product. It's time.

Webstats felt very good but were also down.

Google Analytics Pageviews - 1070
Google Analytics Sessions - 926
Pageviews per Session - 1.15

It was a short month, so they have to be down but I really feel they could have gone way down. What I have noticed is far more engagement between people emailing me and leaving comments, I think I have come a long way.

Back in Dec-Jan. someone pointed out my commenting system was locked up. I fixed that, so that explains all of the comments. I love it. The spam hasn't been too bad.

Review: Daughters of Darkness: The Mara Witch for Basic Era Games

Title: Daughters of Darkness: The Mara Witch for Basic Era Games
Publisher: The Other Side Publishing
Author: Timothy S. Brannan
Year: 2019
Pages: 79 pages
Rating: 5 of 5 stars

I gotta tell you, this is my second favorite of all of Timothy Brannan's Witch character classes for B/X era games. The Mara Witches are some of the darker characters types available to the player. In fact, I find them so dark they are actually a special type of character that should have one heavy restriction.

In every edition of D&D, there have been a few character types that are so special that they are limited to NPC classes. The idea of a shaman character class has always been a part of D&D and only available to the DM as an non-player character. I know a thing or two about great NPCs, my children are actually named Nathan, Paul, Catherine on purpose.

Shamistic casters open up the possibility of playing a monster across tropes. An expert may assist the party because they have a higher calling. A sage may invigorate the party with a quest. Basically these are all people who may pick the party over their clan against some greater evil or some higher cause. Someone who may save the day in a heel-face-turn.

This one book makes the best case for making witches a PC class only. Never should a DM be granted such power. While there is the distinct possibility of a Mara witch choosing an evil or chaotic alignment the player has to totally embrace The Three-fold Law, no matter how injurious or dangerous it may be to themselves. In the hands of a player, the Mara witch can shine and become a legend.

In the hands of the DM, the person who dictates the story and arranges the plots and creates the scenarios, the Mara witch is too powerful. If the DM is the only person who can invoke repercussions of violating the Three-fold Law, then the role of the Mara Witch loses it main strength, the role of tradition. This could and would happen because while the DM may desire a moral story where the Mara Witch falls due to their own evilness, vanity or pettiness, this class can march all over the party.

In the hands of a player, this type of witch is very subtle and powerful. To the player, chaos and evil don't really matter much because they have to abide the fact that their magic could backlash on them. Chaos and evil can take many different forms, but this witch class requires that guiding hand of the player to be an effective character. Someone who feels they have something to win and something to lose.

Having created a number of character classes, including a book specifically about NPCs called "Zero to Hero: Uncommon Commoners", I think can say this character is so different it must be left to a player to make them come to life and should never be given into the hands of DM, except for the rarest circumstance.

This book follows the format of the other two books I have reviewed, The Amazonian Witch and The Classical Witch traditions. Like the other two books, except for outward facing abilities like spells, no mechanic system introduced upsets other character classes, which is very important for consistency. All spells are well written and does not cause a power race with the standard character classes. While specifically written for Labyrinth Lord, it could be added to a great number of rule sets with little problems.

Like the other two books, it has great cover art, wonderful interior art and nicely formatted tables, with blue tint for easy reading. I think this series of books captures the great cover art of second edition D&D while also maintaining the rougher aspect of the B/X era D&D books. The balancing act was well done.

A final highlight to all of these witch themed books is the idea of Tradition. Each book paints an image of the many kinds of witches that have existed in mythology. While there may be a few changes in powers and abilities, each one is similar enough to easily grasp in a readthrough.

Unlike the other two reviews, I spent most of my time looking over the spell lists. This book has 36 pages of spells. And every time I thought to myself, "I would tweak this spell in this way..." I found a second spell that met whatever my imagined need was. Not only are the spells well balanced for this class, they support one another to create a dark mysterious vibe. Which also reinforces the idea that witches need to handled by actual players and not thrown as NPC so the DM can run over the party.

Reviewer's note: The date is taken from the forward, this could be the most recent update rather than the original publication date. If that is the case, my apologies but then that also means the author is providing an excellent experience by routinely updating his works.

#TBT - The First Book - Zero to Hero, Uncommon Commoners

Today's post is a #TBT. Back to my first book. I can't believe it's been over two years and 300 downloads later. Perhaps it's time for an update.
I play a fusion of B/X and AD&D. Back in the day, we had no internet, so I had no context as to which books went with which games.

I vaguely recall some sort of conversion rules to bring your Basic and Expert Characters to AD&D and vis-à-vis. I liked that idea, but then when going through the process, I said, "Screw it! There aren't enough differences between AD&D and Basic/Expert to really warrant this much effort. Elves can be Generic or classed. You can generate stats using either set, etc. We are just doing this."

After years and years of play, I know the differences between AD&D and Basic and Expert. The main twist is that AD&D characters have higher stats, higher bonuses, more of everything in AD&D from weapons to magic spells to magical item and monsters. Demi-humans advance faster with clearly defined abilities in B/X but have level limits, even with the lower levels and ability scores. For the homebrew game, the differences aren't so great. Missile fire is the great equalizer in AD&D, you get more per round which is deadly compared to B/X.

One thing that bothered me about each set of rules was the lack of secondary skills as a fully fleshed out set of statistics. The options were always there to vaguely support NPCs, but when tacking on an professional skill to a Player Character, the DM had to do it all.

I love my NPC characters, usually they act in the supporting role. They don't cast magic, they don't own a sword. They are there to do far more that carry torches and equipment as per the rules, but not sling a sword or spells. Over the years, I developed a set of rules to accommodate these types of characters. I called it Zero to Hero: Uncommon Commoners. They were the type of characters populating a small town to large city.

My first principal was developed from looking at the to hit and saving throw tables. Most of the time, player characters are challenged by rolls in the low teens at low levels. Well, making buckets is easier than that, so my NPCs have a better than 50-50 chance of making something. Second, failure is not applicable. You aren't much of a bucket maker if you fail 50% of the time. Failure for NPC professionals is missing one or more of their target goals. They make 8 buckets instead of 9, they are a day late, some are wood and some are metal, etc.

Second principle is they suck as combatants, but might have some terrifying skill with a tool. Stoneworker's hammers are just brutal, scribes have razor-like knives, and roofers have their terrible zaxes. These characters have an advantage with tools as weapons, but the tools themselves are poor weapons. Also, lumping someone in the head can damage the tool and the target, limiting the user to use it as a tool again.

Third, they have horrible hit points, attributes are rolled on average dice and saving throws are poor. They max out at 7 or so hit points, including constitution bonuses. "Luck number 7" was the guiding thought in this choice. It's luck that they have more HP than a first or second level character, but this is a poor meat shield choice for the PCs.

Some people have asked if this is character sieve, it is very much the opposite. In fact, there is a section on how an NPC professional can transition to Player Character, saving a poorly rolled character. This method generates characters fast by allowing the DM to save those who have abysmal stats. The process of generation assumes the professional character started with averaged die rolls and this can be used to "lift" someone who didn't qualify for a true PC at first.

In Uncommon Commoners, you'll find over 50 character classes for professionals. They can be used to flesh out your towns or add a bit of flare to a PC. They are far from overpowered, but do add zest to any campaign.

The Tek - Stats for January 2021

The Stats for January 2021. I never did post my whole year summary. Maybe this week.

AD&D Character Sheet For Use with Unearthed Arcana: 4
Compass Rose Inn Minisetting: 0
Kobold's Folly: 1
Swashbuckler Character Class for D&D and AD&D: 0
These Old Games Presents: The Hex Pack: 7
Zero to Hero: Uncommon Commoners: 4

It's time to re-do, update and add to my DriveThruRPG offerings.

Webstats were up a good bit.

Google Analytics Pageviews - 1521 vs. 1,241 or 22%.
Google Analytics Sessions - 910
Pageviews per Session - 1.67

My Amazon links are a conundrum. Virtually all funds from Amazon came in the last quarter of 2020, probably owing a loin's share to a single reader of this site. There does seem to be a correspondence between high quality posts with clicks and funds from Amazon. I do not receive a click by click rundown of commissions made, but I can see an incredible amount of clicks preceding those commissions.

DriveThruRPG links are still the clear winner, out performing Amazon ads by a 4 to 1 margin.

#31daychallenge, Part 2

Get those dice warmed up. It's time for the #31daychalllenge. Roll a character a day.

Yesterday, I declined the challenge myself, but offered 20 sets of die rolls to create your own character. I want to spend my time reading a blog a day in January.

Today, I'm reading blogs. Games in Libraries is up to the challenge, as is Spodding

Now for the plug. I wrote a book called "Zero to Hero: Uncommon Commoners" specifically designed to roll up NPCs and to give Player Characters professional skills. It's meant for B/X and AD&D e1. It's available at DriveThruRPG for PWYW. I also have a handy dandy character sheet for AD&D e1 and Unearthed Arcana. It's a scan of a sheet I created in the 80's in PDF format. Suitable for printing.

And with that, I am off to read some blogs.

New Links for Products by TheseOldGames.com

I've always wanted links to DriveThruRPG to look like links to Amazon. However, most of DriveThruRPG doesn't work like that. If you look to the left of this post, you can see an example of what I wanted, which is an affiliate tool for the Daily Hot New Book. You can get that link by logging in to DriveThru and scrolling to the bottom of the Affiliate Resources Page.

The code looks like this (excuse the image, blogger doesn't like code tags):

It displays the ad like this:

Hottest New Book
City of Nexus | 20x30 Battlemaps [BUNDLE]
City of Nexus | 20x30 Battlemaps [BUNDLE]

By harvesting their code, you can change what is displayed by manipulating the code, like I did for my Swashbuckler Character Class.

Swashbuckler Character Class for D&D and AD&D

Swashbucklers for D&D and AD&D

You can get the product page link via the Social link on DriveThruRPG.

That will automatically append your Affiliate Id to the link, which is super handy. The image associated with the product can be directly linked to by right clicking the thumbnail and copying the image address. Many times you can plug that image link right into the code.

Zero to Hero: Uncommon Heroes
Zero to Hero
Zero to Hero

The thumbnail seems to be generated by .css, which will rescale the image to 139 by 196 for the product page. However, if the author uploaded a larger image, you will have to rescale the image and host it yourself. That happened to me with all of my products. I should probably go back and rescale all of the images so DriveThru does less work to display a thumbnail.

You can combine the code above with the table html to create side by side links, like I did below.

The Tek - December 2020

Ah, this is it: The Stats for December 2020. Now that I have enough data, I may post a whole year summary. I need more coffee.

AD&D Character Sheet For Use with Unearthed Arcana: 1
Compass Rose Inn Minisetting: 4
Kobold's Folly: 4
Swashbuckler Character Class for D&D and AD&D: 2
These Old Games Presents: The Hex Pack: 1
Zero to Hero: Uncommon Commoners: 2

Downloads and sales were flat, but I can live with 14 total downloads per month. It's probably time to re-do, update and add to my DriveThruRPG offerings.

Webstats were down a bit, almost 10%. But not horrible.

Google Analytics Pageviews - 1,241
Google Analytics Sessions - 749
Pageviews per Session - 1.65

I've learned a bit in the middle of this pandemic.

I have a whole year of data on my Rakuten Advertising ads. Many clicks, zero income. I am going to say goodbye to Rakuten. It is not aligned with my audience. There is a slight chance that I will keep one segment of Rakuten, The Lego Store. I may have zero people who will make a purchase, but I love the creativity of Lego and I will probably continue to link to the store. It's a content choice over marketing or advertising. It's nonsensical from a business standpoint, but I very much enjoy their photography and products.

If you are looking for an advertiser that isn't aligned to games, then Rakuten is worth a look. It didn't work for me, but it does look like a useful tool.

The clear winning Advertiser is DriveThruRPG. They brought in many times what I made in all other advertisers combined. Roughly, 7 times all other sources. It isn't a ton of money, but it is sufficient for me to pay for my site, to make some discretionary purchases and expand my offerings.

The Tek - November 2020

My stats for DriveThruRPG were lack luster. I really need to remaster these or do something new.

AD&D Character Sheet For Use with Unearthed Arcana: 5
 Compass Rose Inn Minisetting: 0
 Kobold's Folly: 0
Swashbuckler Character Class for D&D and AD&D: 0
These Old Games Presents: The Hex Pack: 0
Zero to Hero: Uncommon Commoners: 4

My spending on DriveThruRPG was up a bit this month. I have also incured a lot of cost by upgrading my computer's memory and purchasing a new Kindle Fire. I hope to offer my DriveThruRPG books as both epub and PDF, so this may pay off. As it stands, I'm about $110 in the hole right now.

Webstats are continuing to trend upwards. You can really see the mid-month slump I fall into. Sessions are down while pageviews are up. Users seem to be hanging around longer each visit. That's great news!

Google Analytics Pageviews - 1,348
Google Analytics Sessions - 686
Pageviews per Session - 1.9657

Amazon ads revenue has fallen off and was easily overtaken by DriveThruRPG ad revenue. That's ok.

The Tek - October 2020

My stats for DriveThruRPG were lack luster. I really need to remaster these or do something new. Working on that now.

AD&D Character Sheet For Use with Unearthed Arcana: 2
 Compass Rose Inn Minisetting: 2
 Kobold's Folly: 1
Swashbuckler Character Class for D&D and AD&D: 1
These Old Games Presents: The Hex Pack: 1
Zero to Hero: Uncommon Commoners: 1

My spending on DriveThruRPG was low this month. The only thing I got was Hexcrawl Basics by Three Kingdom Games.

Webstats are continuing to trend upwards. This month, I fell off again.

Google Analytics Pageviews - 1,020
Google Analytics Sessions - 770
Pageviews per Session - 1.32

Of particular interest were the Amazon ads, which did three times better than my DriveThruRPG ads. Usually, they are lack luster. I am going to try it again.

The Tek - September 2020

My stats for DriveThruRPG were lack luster. I really should have done something for the second anniversary of Zero to Hero.

AD&D Character Sheet For Use with Unearthed Arcana: 6
 Compass Rose Inn Minisetting: 2
 Kobold's Folly: 1
Swashbuckler Character Class for D&D and AD&D: 1
These Old Games Presents: The Hex Pack: 4
Zero to Hero: Uncommon Commoners: 2

Unfortunately, spending was greater than DriveThruRPG income for the second month in a row.  This month I grabbed 3 books by Timothy S. Brannan which was totally worth it.

In August, I got back up on the horse and brought my webstats up. This month, I fell off again.

Google Analytics Pageviews - 596
Google Analytics Sessions - 532
Pageviews per Session - 1.43

On a personal aside, I am trying to back down my insulin. Balancing my blood sugar against what I eat has a big learning curve. I cut back on food and added a lot of exercise to loose weight and the blood sugar goes haywire. It's not as bad as the last time, but it really slows me down.

Blood sugar isn't a dump stat. Today, I laughed and cried like a loon at dinner, but recovered enough to make a video and write three posts. My head hurts.

Ah, well. Enough b----ing. This month is Inktober, so maybe I can pull in more readers with videos.

The Tek - August 2020

My stats for DriveThruRPG were fine.

AD&D Character Sheet For Use with Unearthed Arcana: 4
 Compass Rose Inn Minisetting: 2
 Kobold's Folly: 1
Swashbuckler Character Class for D&D and AD&D: 5
These Old Games Presents: The Hex Pack: 5
Zero to Hero: Uncommon Commoners: 7

August marked two years since Zero to Hero launched.

AD&D Character Sheet For Use with Unearthed Arcana  113
Compass Rose Inn Minisetting: 152
Kobold's Folly: 140
Swashbuckler Character Class for D&D and AD&D: 104
These Old Games Presents: The Hex Pack:123
Zero to Hero: Uncommon Commoners: 279

Unfortunately, spending was greater than DriveThruRPG income for August. :) I picked up some great books, though.

In August, I got back up on the horse and brought my webstats back up.

Google Analytics Pageviews - 1,693
Google Analytics Sessions - 1,034
Pageviews per Session - 1.63

I participated in #RPGADAY2020 which was big help.

#RPGADAY2020 29. Ride

#Ride

I play a mash up of BX and AD&D. Both systems introduced the idea of skills, but other than a vague mention, did not elaborate. In BX and AD&D there was the idea that characters sometimes came from a different background and would have some of the abilities a professional, skilled laborer. Exactly how that worked was unclear. AD&D did have a list of professional hirelings, but didn't give any statistics. Unearthed Arcana brought in a fleshed out version of weapon proficiency and mastery, but didn't spell that out.

In order to correct that for my campaigns, I wrote a book called "Zero to Hero: Uncommon Commoners" which provides over 50 different professional "classes" you can use with characters.

Obviously, I have spent a lot of time thinking about what characters can and can't do. However, I never meant to create or even utilize campaign specific skills. For example, ride or swim.

A campaign takes place with in a particular setting and that setting needs to have some default skills. Like ride. All characters know how to do it, just like swimming. Skills should be an enhancement, not a detriment. An ability to do more, not less. Now, if my setting was in space, perhaps characters would not know how to swim or ride ride a horse. That makes sense, but then again, I wouldn't expose the party to a horse ride by a lake because they're astronauts.

But if they are crew of the Firefly, obviously they know how to ride a horse through water while wearing a space suit. Skills like ride should always be an enhancement, something creative and interesting that makes the session "different", while not posing a barrier to play.

I think where this gets gummed up is when a skill is presented as a "get out of puzzle" event. Yes, skills solve problems but shouldn't ever provide a dice roll to get out of a particular situation. That is "gotcha gaming" and I dislike that style of play. (Click here to listen to my rant against Tomb of Horrors, the ultimate gotcha gaming experience.)

World building is hard, sometimes you have to give the players a free ride, as dictated by the setting. It only makes sense.

#RPGADAY2020 23. Edge.

#Edge

I'm a huge fan of coming up with outrageous scenarios for my players and their characters, but I always try to think of three game changers that the characters could use for a significant edge over their enemy.

It's kind of laughable, because I'm batting exactly zero when it comes to predicting how the players react and what they will use to get an edge.

The benefit of thinking about how the main antagonist's plan could fall apart is not putting things on a platter for the players, but being able to react appropriately when it happens. Because he or she isn't the hero and the default winner, the party is.

In the Avengers film, they nailed Thanos's reactions. He told the heroes that their knees would be weak when they failed. Sure enough, Tony went down when he lost. When Thanos failed, he too sat down, weak-kneed.

That's good for a movie with an necessary ending, but the party's adventures don't always end with the defeat of the bad guy. Very often my Big Bads are made completely irrelevant by the characters and the mechanism of how that works is often tied to whatever edge they had in the conflict.

In one campaign, I had the party endlessly antagonized by a ghostly voice that whispered, "Silver is your enemy." The paladin made a very good leap of logic and asked if the voice sounded like their antagonist. I totally mean it to be the voice of their enemy, but the paladin pointed out that those words were only said after whatever ominous threat was given. In his mind, it sounded like a retort. I had meant it to be a tag line, but could those words be spoken by someone other than their enemy?

Well, after hearing a rather well reasoned argument from the paladin, I decided that it could be someone else speaking. So who's voice was it and what was it talking about? The paladin surmised that his god didn't like his minion threatened, so his god was issuing a threat to their tormentor.

"Silver is your enemy," did actually refer to many traits the paladin used to define himself. A silver decked horse, a silver sword, a silver symbol. Since their antagonist was extraplanular, silver was an effective defense.

Originally, I had meant for this extraplanular enemy to have an immunity to silver, at the cost of having a weakness to iron making the party's obvious strengths a weakness. But, once I had the player's input, I dropped that idea. It was going to be a straight up slugfest between the party wielding silver and demonic forces harassing them.

The demon was supposed to punch through into this dimension, but I flipped that around. The characters would be going to the demon's dimension AND they would possess all of the nasty, dangerous attributes of a demon on the prime material plane while there, with the Silvered Paladin acting as a locus of the power.

The party used that edge to the fullest, dishing out horrific damage on the forces of evil. But then they lost the fight and were dispelled back to the Prime Material Plane, forbidden from entering that dark realm for 999 years. They were startled to be back home, whole and healthy while the demon was horribly weakened and unable to strike at them directly.

That turned the whole adventure into a detective story, where the party had to figure out who the demon was using to continue it's attack. They managed to neutralize the demon at the cost of all of their levels. I had thought they were going to find away to pursue him home or lure him out, but instead they picked a different edge and tactic. They used their knowledge of the campaign settings as an edge to speed run experience to get back to level.

That was super fun.

The Tek - July 2020

My stats for DriveThruRPG were fine.

July 2020 Downloads via DriveThruRPG:
AD&D Character Sheet For Use with Unearthed Arcana - 3
Compass Rose Inn Minisetting - 3
Kobold Folly Minisetting - 2
Swashbucklers Character Class - 1
The Hex Pack - 5
Zero to Hero: Uncommon Commoners - 6

I just realized reports run in alphabetical order, so I reorder my list. I also looked at all time downloads, which include free and paid downloads. Those are some really nice numbers, it's been 23 months since Zero to Hero was released.

All time Downloads via DriveThruRPG:
AD&D Character Sheet For Use with Unearthed Arcana - 110
Compass Rose Inn Minisetting - 150
Kobold Folly Minisetting - 139
Swashbucklers Character Class - 100
The Hex Pack - 118
Zero to Hero: Uncommon Commoners - 273

I would like to do an update for Zero to Hero and Kobold's Folly. I would like to add maps and encounter tables to Zero and a treaties on Kobolds for the Folly. I'd like to do two new sets, one will be a Roman theme set of Domuses (houses) battle mats and the other will be a Hill fort map. These items will include a D&D specific booklet plus a rule set agnostic booklet. Maybe, 25 pages each.

Well, webstats were disappointing. I didn't post much and it shows.

Google Analytics Pageviews - 601
Google Analytics Sessions - 484
Pageviews per Session - 1.24

I don't feel to bad, as I already have 340+ page views for the first 5 days of August 2020. I should be back to normal soon. I'm also posting daily again, so that will give me a noticeable kick.

I did do a major update on my page. I'll be tweaking things all month long. Sorry for the mess.

I just want to remind everyone, if you have a product, a website or a podcast, let me know in the comments below. I'd be happy to add them to my site.

#RPGADAY2020 5. Tribute

#Tribute(s)

I have some wonderful artwork from a well known artist in the field.  These creations are pyromancy. The brown areas are created with a torch and the colored areas appear to be watercolors. They are as cool as they are fascinating.

Each was done by the amazing Deven Rue. You can also find her on Facebook in addition to the aforementioned website. She's known for spectacular maps, but I can say I loved her teapots and slippers first.

As you can see, I added an "s" to "tribute". I have a few more. Next up are the author-artist duo, Michael DiBaggio and Shell "Presto" DiBaggio, the creators of the Ascension Epoch series. I reviewed one of their books a few months ago, here. Shell Presto DiBaggio also has a Youtube channel for her artwork. I love watching these videos.

Ok, so what is the tribute in these two? Well, believe it or not, I wrote a little OSR book called Zero to Hero which contains 50+ descriptions of medieval professions as character types. After I started following the DiBaggio's on MeWe, it sparked a memory. Historically, scribes fell into two categories, an illuminator and an author. And very often, they were husband and wife teams. It's nice to see traditions don't fade. So I added both types of professionals to my book after following them.

Zero to Hero: Uncommon Heroes
Zero to Hero
Zero to Hero

My third tribute comes from the Introduction of that same book:

"And my parents, who instilled a love in gaming in me from a very young age." Thank you Mom and Dad! They are also a wife and husband authoring team. My mom is a publisher and my dad is an author

These five people aren't the only that could have the label "tribute", but if I kept going, I'd be here all night. Five people for prompt number 5. Seems right.

Be sure to check all of these great creators out.

The Tek - June 2020

In June, I hit a wall. I had a couple "technical glitches" that stopped me from doing a lot of things I normally do.

I have this glucometer that I use to regulate my insulin. It took a crap on me. It started throwing out really low numbers at random. The last reading it took for me suggested that I try to re-calibrate it. That did not work.

Good Morning! You're dead!

20 mg/dL is god-awful, really bad. If you are standing up, looking a device, taking pictures and swearing, you don't have a 20 mg/dL. Basically, everything it was telling me was wrong. It turns out, for every low reading it was giving, it was also throwing 3 high readings. Much too high, so I was slowly increasing my insulin which I didn't need.

I felt like hell and I wouldn't have realized exactly how bad it was if I didn't like statistics so much. Systemically, that old meter was telling me my lowest reading for the day was 80-100 points too low while also over reporting 3 readings a day by the same amount. It was totally baffling.

This was so serious, my doctor sent me to get blood drawn. Since I have at least one risk factor for COVID-19, just getting the test done was something she wanted to avoid. But we didn't get a choice. I am happy to report that my A1C which was well over 13 last year is down to 6.6. I have a ways to go, but I now have a protocol to reduce my insulin. That was unthinkable last year at this time.

The webstats and sales stats are not so baffling. I am very proud of my stats for the Hex Pack. That was an amazing launch. Thank you again for making it so popular.

Compass Rose Inn Minisetting - 3
Kobold Folly Minisetting - 3
Zero to Hero: Uncommon Commoners - 6

Google Analytics Pageviews - 779
Google Analytics Sessions - 538

Basically, I was down two thirds for the month of June compared to May. Painful, but I survived the month. I expect that July's stats will be equally bad. It will take a long time to recover.

The Tek - May 2020

I had a very good month despite some hectic issues at home. I launched a new product called The Hex Pack. It was the best launch ever.

May 2020 Downloads via DriveThruRPG:
AD&D Character Sheet For Use with Unearthed Arcana - 6
Compass Rose Inn Minisetting - 6
Kobold Folly Minisetting - 6
Zero to Hero: Uncommon Commoners - 5
The Hex Pack - 94
Swashbucklers Character Class - 3

I have hit my goal of of 100 downloads for every item, except Swashbucklers. It's more niche than niche, I think. These stats are as of 6/10, so they are higher than expected.

AD&D Character Sheet For Use with Unearthed Arcana - 106
Compass Rose Inn Minisetting - 146
Kobold Folly Minisetting - 136
Zero to Hero: Uncommon Commoners - 265
The Hex Pack - 104
Swashbucklers Character Class - 98

Webstats look good, but I have no idea why there was a huge spike on May 5th and May 7th. Nothing weird stands out to me.

I'm stuck at the second episode (not counting the pilot) of "That's Not New". I'm gonna have to kick this into high or drop it. Not sure which. I need some inspiration.

Products by These Old Games - The Ad Post

I've finally hit six products DriveThruRPG. Yesterday, I launched The Hex Pack and already have dozens of downloads. I think that's the strongest launch ever. I'm on the front page too, under Newest Free and PWYW heading. It's silly, but feels good.

You can find all of my products on DriveThruRPG under PWYW. Check them out.

The Tek - April 2020

There are a couple of months that are really bad for me. Usually they are May and November. This is owing to my finals at school. Typically, finals are pushed in to mid-May and pull back to late November. The administration is dancing the issues of Easter and Christmas, without actually using those names.

April 2020 Downloads via DriveThruRPG:
AD&D Character Sheet For Use with Unearthed Arcana - 3
Compass Rose Inn Minisetting - 1
Kobold Folly Minisetting - 3
Zero to Hero: Uncommon Commoners - 7
Swashbucklers Character Class - 2

I want to share my all time download stats as of May, because I did this last month.
AD&D Character Sheet For Use with Unearthed Arcana - 96
Compass Rose Inn Minisetting - 138
Kobold Folly Minisetting - 128
Zero to Hero: Uncommon Commoners - 255
Swashbucklers Character Class - 93

I'm really happy with those numbers. I am less happy with my April webstats as I pretty much stopped publishing content for half a month.

Google Analytics Pageviews - 957
Google Analytics Sessions - 669
Pageviews per Session - 1.43

Additionally, I started publishing a podcast called: "That's Not New". I probably shouldn't have made my first post on April Fool's Day, but that's what happened. I am still searching for my voice and my place, so these are pretty rough episodes. I intend for these to be biweekly podcast with a duration of 7-15 minutes. We shall see how that goes. I could really use some feedback.

The TEK - March 2020

Sales are dead for 2020. No help for that with problems we all have now. I've rethought my presence on DriveThruRPG and I am now in to raw downloads from DriveThru. Making people happy with fun, free stuff. I still have price listed on my products, but I am encouraging people to pay nothing at all. There are so many other people out there who need help. Please by all means, save your money for them.

March 2020 Downloads via DriveThruRPG:
AD&D Character Sheet For Use with Unearthed Arcana - 6
Compass Rose Inn Minisetting - 2
Kobold Folly Minisetting - 7
Zero to Hero: Uncommon Commoners - 7
Swashbucklers Character Class - 5

I want to share my all time download stats this month:
AD&D Character Sheet For Use with Unearthed Arcana - 93
Compass Rose Inn Minisetting - 137
Kobold Folly Minisetting - 125
Zero to Hero: Uncommon Commoners - 248
Swashbucklers Character Class - 91

I am close to reaching a couple of thresholds on each product. I will be doing a happy dance if I can hit 100 downloads for each and every product and 250 for Zero to Hero. I'll let you know when that happens.

Webstats were amazing, even at 1 pm on the last day of the month.

You can see the spike when everything shut down. I am very happy that readers came to visit in times of worry and stress. Thank you for doing that, it was a ray of sunshine on a very bad day.

I had been working with a new ad provider, but I picked a horrible time to change things up. All affiliate clicks have zero'ed out except for DriveThruRPG which is up 474%. Crazy times we live in, when games take a backseat to Amazon.

I would like to thank you. the readers, who make this project a fulfilling experience. In order to continue, I need to hear from you. Post those reviews, leave those comments and make suggestions on social media like MeWe.
